Nephrite Jade

Nephrite Jade

This is the expensive stuff because of its green hues and rarity. The most sought after colour is Emperor Green. Nephrite is translucent. In addition, there is a white version called “mutton fat.”

Jadeite

Jadeite

The other form of Jade. This type of jade has more colour variations due to impurities in the rock; Emperor green is still preferred. It is harder than Nephrite, but is also translucent.

Rough Jadeite

Rough Jadeite

Rough Jadeite Shine

Rough Jadeite Shine

If you shine a light into the cut in the rock, it should shine the colour of the gem beneath.

Serpentine Gem Rock

Serpentine Gem Rock

Speckled and soft, not “jade”

Imitation Jade

Imitation Jade

These are definitely not jade.

There are a few, easily identifiable markings that prove these are not what we are looking for.

Pretty sure they’re made of glass.
